Overall, both rural and urban population show a consistent upward trend throughout the period, while the rural population largely remained stable. In terms of age structure, the proportion of people aged 15-65 rises sharply, whereas under 15 and over 65 categories stay relatively flat by comparison.
In 1950, there is a small discrepancy in the proportions of urban and rural population, with 6% and 4% respectively. The percentage of the rural population rose by 1% in 1970, despite a slight fall in 1960 and is expected to increase negligibly over the decades, finishing at around 8% in 2040. In addition, the figure for urban residents increased considerably to about 25% in 2020 after which it is projected to experience a sharp climb in the final year to approximately 38%. When it comes to the proportion of total population, it commenced the year just over the 10% and its figure is estimated to reach a chart high of 44% in 2040.
Turning to the age structure, 15-65 age group made up almost 6% of total population in 1950. Then its figure witnessed a gradual increase until 2020, with around 33% and it is forecast to climb by 2%, reaching its highest point in 2040. The proportion of people aged under 15 and over 65 started the year with identical figures, with almost 3%. Then their percentages diverged, prior to remaining unchanged till 2030 at just 5%.
