One piece of art that I found particularly striking is David by Michelangelo, which is one of the most famous skull characters in the world. It’s a Renaissance marble skull culture depicted with the biblical figure just before his Confrontration with Goliath. I first saw it in photographs and documentaries about Renaissance art, rather than I think the original in person. I remember being particularly feskinate by it because the sculpt culture looked incredibly realistic, almost as if it were a living person, rather than a piece of marble. Later I learned more about Michelangelo and the historical background of the sculpt culture, which made me appreciate it even more. What makes this artwork so impactful for me is the incredible level of this ideal. the human anatomy, facial expression and posture are all remarkably realistic. At the same time, there is something very calm and powerful about the sculpt culture. It makes me think about confidence, courage and ability to face a difficult situation despite being afraid. Overall, David is striking to me not only because of its beauty and technical perfection but also because of the sense of strange and human potential that it represents. It’s the kind of artwork that I could look at for a long time and still discover something new.
