Most societies have rules and laws that people are expected to follow. Although I agree that individuals should have some freedom to make their own choices, I largely agree that society could not function properly if people were completely free to do whatever they wanted.
On the one hand, rules and laws are necessary to maintain order and protect people from harm. If everyone could act according to their own wishes without any restrictions, their actions could negatively affect other members of society. For example, laws against theft and violence prevent people from harming others and help create a safer environment. In this sense, certain restrictions on individual freedom are necessary for society to function.
On the other hand, people should still have the freedom to make personal choices, particularly when their actions do not affect others. Individuals should be able to choose their careers, relationships and lifestyles without unnecessary interference from the government or other people. If too many rules were imposed on people’s everyday lives, their freedom and individuality could be unnecessarily limited. Therefore, laws should restrict harmful behaviour rather than control every aspect of people’s lives.
In conclusion, I largely agree that society needs rules and laws in order to function effectively. However, I believe that these rules should be limited to protecting people and maintaining social order, while individuals should remain free to make personal choices that do not harm others.
