In this day and age, there are many controversial discussions about whether providing direct assistance of goods or money support to charities will benefit poverty more. From my perspective, both of them have their strengths, and we should strike a balance between the two to yield the most effective outcome. I will illustrate each of their prospects in the following paragraphs.
On one hand, sending goods directly to destitute impoverishes the connectivity of the community. With the transparent delivery of tangible goods like food, water, and clothes which are carefully chosen, it gives value for both giver and receiver. Moreover, the direct physical support, such as volunteer work of visiting orphanages or geracomium, fosters the communication between donors and recipients. It creates a community for sharing purposes.
On the other hand, donating money to charities helps maximize the use of money. With widely spread and managed reach, the distribution to the poor with diverse needs is well organized and recorded. Volunteers can distribute goods with more flexibility. Furthermore, there are many trustworthy international charities which provide transparent support to communities, not only updating their assistance report but also giving evidence such as feedback. These prevent exaggerated and distorted stories, embezzlement, and restore public confidence, making better use of publicity for poverty.
However, there are drawbacks in different aspects. Delivering goods directly may not align with the actual needs of the refugees. For instance, clothing being sent may not fit the sizes for the local population, food is difficult to preserve, etc. At the same time, it is obvious that not all charity organizations are professionally managed; some of them are even frauds. Funds may be misused or diverted for purposes unrelated to the stated mission.
In conclusion, both approaches have their strengths and limitations; we should strike a balance between the two, which is crucial for maximizing the effectiveness of philanthropic efforts. We should carefully distinguish the actual use of funding, choosing charity organizations with a strong link to social events, and participate in well-organized aid events regularly. Raise assistance both at home and abroad.
