Firstly, many criminal don not have enough help when they get out. They might not have family or friends to support them, it is hard for them to find work and they might not have a stable place to live. Without this help they might turn back to crime whereas, lot’s of people who leave jail have problem with drugs or alcohol. If they do not get help for this while they are in jail, they might start using drugs or alcohol again when they get out. Also some people in jail have mental health issues that do not get treated. When they get out they might not know how to cope with life outside of jail. This can make them more likely to break the law.
Secondly, when individual leave prison some end up communiting more crime because they are not prepared for life outside, struggle to find employment due to their criminal record and face social stigma and rejection from their communities. Prison should focus more on teaching prisoner essential life skills, employers should often fair opportunities regardless of past mistake and communities should provide support and acceptance to those trying to reintegrate.
