The maps provided indicate the change in the layout of the Central Library over the course of 20 years.
The distinct difference observed between the two maps is the number of sections the library has. Twenty years ago, the Central Library had the following sections: Audiovisual material, adult fiction books, reading room, children’s books, adult non-fiction books and an enquiry desk. However, the library today has more sections in the same area of space.
It is noticeable that the area allocated for children’s fiction books has been enlarged with a designated seating area, and also factors in a designated space for storytelling events. On the contrary, the area occupied by books for adults have shrinked considerably, with adult non-fictions books being removed altogether. The location and utility of the audiovisual material room has been changed and renamed to the computer room.
There are also a few additions that have been made, including the lecture room, a cafeteria, and self-service machines. The reading room does not exist anymore, and instead there is a section for all reference books. Instead of allocating an entire room for an enquiry desk, there is a succinct information desk in the new design.
In the last twenty years, the Central Library has undergone various changes in terms of its layout and sections. The same space has been renovated to fit in more areas.
