The given line graph gives information about the transported goods’ numbers in the UK from 1974 to 2002 and the transformations were made by road, water, rail and pipeline.
Overall, except for rail transportation, other 3 methods showed a significant rise in their goods quantities at the end of the given time, compared to the beginning. Pipeline was the only way that did not experienced a descending trend.
Road transportation was the most popular way in 1974 with approximately 70 million tonnes goods. It reached to almost 80% after 1994 and it experienced some ups and downs in the meantime. An increasing trend continued until 2002 to the level of slightly under 100 million tonnes. Rail way had a similar line with road. It started with 40 million in 1974. A shifting pattern was followed until the final rise in between 1998 and 2002. It’s latest value was almost 40 million in 2002.
Pipeline carriage started with around 5 million tonnes goods and escalated to above of 20 million in 1994, with growths in between. It maintained a plateau until 2002. The amount of properties carried by water was similar to rail’s until 1978. It surpassed rail and rised to around 60 million tonnes in between 1978 and 1982. Finally, after a slight drop, it reached to a final value of approximately 62 million tonnes.
