The exhibited line graph illustrates/compares the proportion of city dweller from 1970 with a projected percentage for 2030.
Overall, it is expected that the proportion of urban inhabitants (urban population) in all four nations will show an upward trend over the entire period with China witnessing the most significant growth. In addition, the USA is projected to continue to be the country having the highest percentage of city residents/taking the lead in the percentage of city residents toward the end of the examined period.
In 1970, around 70% of the US population lived in cities. This figure rose steadily to just below 90% by 2010 and is projected to reach 90% by 2030. A similar but more dramatic trend was seen in Korea, where the urban population started at 40%, surged to roughly 85% in 2010, and is expected to climb slightly to match the USA’s 90% by the end of the period.
China and India had much lower levels of urbanization at the beginning of the period, both at around 20% in 1970. For China, the percentage stayed almost the same until 1990, before increasing quickly and overtaking India’s figure in the mid-1990s. It is forecast that China’s urban population will continue to rise and finish at more than 65% in 2030. In contrast, India’s rate grew slowly but steadily throughout the period and is expected to remain below 40% by 2030
