The line chart depicts the mean carbon dioxide emissions per person in four countries-United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal-over the period from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, United Kingdom and Sweden saw a decline in CO2 emissions over the period, whilst Italy and Portugal experienced increases. The United Kingdom had the highest emissions throughout period but decreased over time. In constrant, Portugal stood at lowest emissions but showed considerable growth.
Firstly, The United Kingdom had the highest emissions, at approximately 11 metric tonnes in 1967, then fell to around 9 metric tonnes by 2007. Moreover, Sweden’s emission peaked at around 10.2 metric tonnes in the 1970s, then dropped dramatically to around 5.5 metric tonnes end of the period.
Lastly, Portugal and Italy started with lower emissions, around 1.5 and 4.2 metric tonnes respectively. Italy rose steadily, surpassing Sweden in the 1990s and reaching around 7.8 metric tonnes. Meanwhile, Portugal’s emissions rose constantly and remaining the lowest emissions, around 5.7 metric tonnes by 2007.
