The line graph illustrates the amount of items which transported by four different modes of transportation in the UK from 1974 to 2002.
Overall, road transportation and water transportation carried more quantity of items than the amount carried by pipelines and rails.
At the beginning of the given period, road transportation carried over 60 million tonnes items in the UK. However, the amount of items carried by this mode of transport increased gradually to just under 80 million tonnes in 1990 and then it continued its upward trend in the next four years to reach a peak at under 100 million tonnes in 2002. The number of goods which transported by water increased during the given period, except in 1998; however, it reached a peak at over 60 million tonnes.
There were a mild fluctuation in the number of the transported goods from 1974 to 2002, almost the same with the beginning. The amount of items which transported by pipeline increased gradually from 1974 to 1994 with over 20 million tonnes. But at the end of the period , this quantity was around 2 times lower than rail transportation.
