Modern and sophisticated world is defining our dreams in different ways. While some argue that we should always pursue our lofty dreams despite its difficulties, others claim that concentration on down-to-earth goals is better. Both viewpoints are legitimate and will be exhaustively elaborated in the following essay, before my personal stance is asserted.
On the one hand, opponents of following dreams believe that this leads to self-development. Ambitious dreams can be the major source of motivation for one to develop their full potential. Once getting enhanced, the progress can provide one with adequate experiences, as it requires effort, perseverance and persistence. As a result, the sense of satisfaction when it comes to fruition would also generate encouragement to take on more challenges and goals. Illustrative of this is film editing, a pastime requires expertise and skills which takes a long time to be proficient at. Once getting skilled, their proficiency improves and they may the progress and result will be more rewarding and proud, they may also gain experiences that can be applied in the next film edit, while their sense of achievement will be more intensified
On the other hand, those who take their preference on realistic goals hold the belief that this can lead to a clearer path to success. Unlike unattainable dreams which exceed your ability and are hard to achieve. Real goals are grounded in capabilities, resources and circumstances which not only assure one with a greater chance of becoming successful, but also provide one with the factor of time-saving, resource-saving. For example, an aspiring musician will set their practical goal to record an album in a home studio. They will acknowledge the essential equipment required, certain musical abilities to successfully master the goal at hand.
In conclusion, although an ambitious dream has certainly contributed to personal growth through experiences and skill development, it is clear that setting realistic goals is crucial for bringing people closer to success. Thus, I contend that the pursuit of attainable goals is more advantageous, as it facilitates a more expeditious and efficient path to achievement.
