Nowadays , many universities integrate internship programs into their curriculum which means that students must complete an internship before graduating. Personally, I think that along with some drawbacks, it could bring many benefits for students.
On the one hand, participating in an internship program has many advantages for interns such as adapting working style, applying theory into practice. In university, students just learn about theory but they can not learn about working style which is very important when working for a company. Let me tell you my story, last year I was an intern at an auditing company. After this internship, I gained a lot of valuable experience such as how to interact with co-worker, how to write emails which I did not study in my university. In addition, internships are a best opportunity to apply theory into practice. My major is auditing and I learned a lot of theory knowledge. It is very difficult to understand and apply it. But when I interned at Deloitte, I was more understanding and can apply this knowledge very well.
On the other hand, along with benefits, there are some disadvantages . When students spend almost their time on the internship, this will affect academic performance. Last year, when my friend was a intern at an auditing company, because this is a busy reasons of auditor, she had to work 40 hour each week. This means that she did not have time to study and her academic performance was poor. In addition, some interns strive to balance between their education and internship, resulting in burnout and overwork. It not only affects performance but also impacts the well-being of a person.
In conclusion, completing an internship before graduating brings many advantages for students. However, it could along with some drawbacks. Depending on the situation of each person and their ability to balance it, it will bring advantages or disadvantages.
