The process illustrates how the Australian Bureau of Meteorology gathers real-time weather data to generate accurate forecasts.
Overall, the process encompasses four stages, beginning with using specialized equipment to collect weather information. Once collected, such information will undergo the analysis process and finally broadcast to the audience.
At the beginning of the process, the data can be collected by three means namely satellite, radar and drifting buoy. The radar can observe data itself or from satellite, after which it will present a radar screen for analysing and forecasting. In addition, it is able to generate synoptic charts, which is also shown by drifting buoy. Meanwhile, raw information gathered by satellite will be displayed by satellite photo.
The process continues with the data being transferred into a computer to prepare the broadcast. Subsequently, the final form of information is provided to the public via TV news, radio or recorded announcement devices like telephone.
