The table illustrates the amount of domestic fresh fish production as well as importations in Perth, Australia for 11 years starting the year 2004. The units are measured in metric tonnes.
Overall, over the 11 years, less fish was imported into Perth as compared to locally obtained ones. The year 2008 registered an all-high figure of 8136.20 metric tonnes in local fish production whilst 2005 recorded the least amount of imports (231.6 metric tonnes).
Starting in 2004 at 2677.7 mt, fish production in Perth rose dramatically to an ever-high catch of 8136.2 mt in 2008 before a steady fall every year to 2012. Furthermore, a rising trend ensued from 2013 onwards.
However, fish imports into Perth show a fluctuating trend that starts within the first three years from 2004. A sharp increase from 309.9 to 830.5mt in 2007 covers for the negligible increase in local produce between 2006 and 2007. All in all, the imports continued to rise and fall consistently since the year 2007 to close the survey in 2014 at 782.7 fish.
In conclusion, the total stock of fish increased by more than half over the 11 years under the survey. Both categories reflect a fluctuating trend with local production showing a protracted trend, but as for imports intermittent rises and falls were observed.
