The presented graph illustrates, in percentages, the rate of leisure time activities of older people in five different categories over a 30-years, spanning from 1980 to 2010.
As is observed, there was an upward trend in four categories during the period 1980 to 2010, and there was a downward trend in one category. While reading emerged as the most prevailing activity, theater was comparatively less frequent.
To begin, in 1980, the rate of watching TV began at 60%, and it increased slightly to 70% in 2000, then it decreased to roundly 65% in ten-years. The percentages of hiking rose gradually from 20% to 80%, between 1980 and 2010. Theatre’s rate started at 50%, after that this percentage fell to 30% in 1990, before a steady growth to roughly 45% in 2010. The rate of elderly people reading a book was 30 percent in 1980. Furthermore, it witnessed an increase to 40% in 1990. Afterwards it plunged to 20% in 2000, before a sharp growth to 60% in 2010. The percentage of surfing the internet was approximately 5%, and then it rose to almost 15%. Moreover, in 2010, it soured to 30%.
