Importing large amounts of food from other countries has become increasingly common in many countries. In my opinion, while this trend has its drawbacks, I believe its benefits are more significant.
On the one hand, there are two main disadvantages, including environmental damage and impact on local economy. One key issue to consider is large-scale import-food leads to unsustainable consumption habits. As a result, waste management becomes overloaded, which leads to many negative impacts on the environment. Another issue is, for businesses in importing countries, they need to compete with a lot of companies from other areas. This can result in local companies may decreasing profits or even go out business, which can harm the local economy.
On the other hand, I believe the advantages associated with this trend are far more significant than these drawbacks, including resident’s health and local economy. One benefit is that consumers have more options for quality food. This is mainly because food from overseas need to be review through multiple layers and pass through quality control systems, which allows local residents use healthy food and have positive effects on physical health. Another important benefit is that local companies have more opportunities to become import agents. For this reason, they can increase revenue and job opportunities, which leads to the development of the local economy.
In conclusion, even though there are certain negative effects, I think the trend has more sustainable positive effects on local residents and the development of exporting countries.
