The bar chart depicts the changes in car ownership in a European country during the 40-year period (1971 – 2001).
Overall, the proportion of households with no car was seen to gradually fall during the period mentioned. Meanwhile, the percentages of those who had one and two cars experienced fluctuations, as the first group had grown stronger than the second one.
At the beginning of the period, the group of families without a car reached its highest rate, at roughly 50% before gradually decreasing by around 30% by the end of the period. In comparison, the families with one car, recorded at about 35% in 1971 had peaked at approximately 50% and then declined to roughly 44% in 2001.
As can be seen in the given chart, the group of households owning two cars, which started at the lowest percentage (about 18%) had considerably increased in its consumption despite regular fluctuations. By 2001, it also reached its peak at roughly 31%.
