Speaker 1 (1)
Good morning. Clare House Hotel. Andrew speaking. I'm the events manager.
Speaker 2 (2)
Good morning, Andrew. My name's Samantha.
Speaker 2 (3)
I'm arranging a party for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, and I'm ringing to ask about hiring a room sometime next September.
Speaker 2 (4)
Also, my parents and several of the guests will need accommodation.
Speaker 1 (5)
Okay. I'm sure we can help you with that.
Speaker 1 (6)
Will you be having a sit-down meal or a buffet?
Speaker 2 (7)
Probably a sit-down.
Speaker 1 (8)
And do you know how many people there'll be?
Speaker 2 (9)
Around 80, I think.
Speaker 1 (10)
Well, we have 2 rooms that can hold that number.
Speaker 1 (11)
One is the Adelphi room. That can seat 85, or hold over 100 if people are standing for a buffet.
Speaker 1 (13)
If you have live music, there's room for 4 or 5 musicians in the gallery overlooking the room.
Speaker 1 (14)
Our guests usually appreciate the fact that the music can be loud enough for dancing, but not too loud for conversation.
Speaker 2 (15)
Yes. I really don't like it when you can't talk.
Speaker 1 (16)
Exactly. Now the Adelphi room is at the back of the hotel, and there are French windows leading out onto the terrace.
Speaker 1 (17)
This has a beautiful display of pots of roses at that time of the year.
Speaker 2 (18)
Which direction does it face?
Speaker 1 (19)
Southwest. So that side of the hotel gets the sun in the afternoon and early evening.
Speaker 1 (21)
From the terrace, you can see the area of trees within the grounds of the hotel, or you can stroll through there to the river.
Speaker 1 (22)
That's on the far side, so it isn't visible from the hotel.
Speaker 1 (24)
Then another option is the Carlton Room. This is a bit bigger.
Speaker 1 (25)
It can hold up to a 110 people, and it has the advantage of a stage, which is useful if you have any entertainment, or, indeed, a small band can fit onto it.
Speaker 2 (26)
And can you go outside from the room?
Speaker 1 (27)
No. The Carlton room is on the first floor, but on one side, the windows look out onto the lake.
Speaker 2 (28)
Lovely. I think either of those rooms would be suitable.
Speaker 1 (29)
Can I tell you about some of the options we offer in addition?
Speaker 1 (31)
As well as a meal, you can have an MC, a master of ceremonies, who'll be with you throughout the party.
Speaker 2 (32)
What exactly is the MC's function?
Speaker 2 (33)
I suppose they make a speech during the meal if we need one, do they?
Speaker 1 (34)
That's right. All our MCs are trained as public speakers, so they can easily get people's attention.
Speaker 1 (35)
Many guests are glad to have someone who can make themselves heard above the chatter, and they're also your support.
Speaker 1 (36)
If anything goes wrong, the MC will deal with it so you can relax.
Speaker 2 (37)
Great. I'll need to ask you about food, but something else that's important is accommodation.
Speaker 2 (38)
You obviously have rooms in the hotel, but do you also have any other accommodation, like cabins, for example?
Speaker 1 (39)
Yes. There are 5 in the grounds, all self-contained.
Speaker 1 (40)
They each sleep 2 to 4 people and have their own living room, bathroom, and small kitchen.
Speaker 2 (41)
That sounds perfect for what we'll need.
Speaker 2 (42)
Now you have various facilities, don't you?
Speaker 2 (43)
Are they all included in the price of hiring the room? The pool, for instance.
Speaker 1 (44)
Normally, you'd be able to use it, but it'll be closed throughout September for refurbishment, I'm afraid.
Speaker 1 (45)
The gym will be available, though, at no extra charge.
Speaker 1 (46)
That's open all day from 6 in the morning until midnight.
Speaker 1 (48)
And the tennis courts, but there is a small additional payment for those.
Speaker 1 (49)
We have 4 courts, and it's worth booking in advance if you possibly can, as there can be quite a long waiting list for them.
Speaker 2 (50)
Right. Now could we discuss the food?
Speaker 2 (51)
This would be dinner around 7 o'clock.
