Nowadays, some people believe history as a subject holds great potential and is more crucial to study, while others argue that STEM is far more vital than history. I believe in a balanced approach as both disciplines are equally important, and a mixed approach will lead to better learning outcomes.
On the one hand, people consider history as one of the most pivotal subjects. In the contemporary world, a large number of youngsters are moving away and seem least interested in finding out about the history of various things, such as the chronology of their culture, their ancestors’ war history, or the past of a particular building, and whatnot. When the young populace has profound know-how of their forefathers and their culture, they will predominantly avoid those mistakes that were done by their ancestors. On top of that, history is the key asset of any nation, which differentiates it from other cultures and nations. Furthermore, knowledge of history develops critical thinking and broadens the horizon, such as when citizens study world history, there are fewer chances of them being manipulated by leaders or other such organizations’ radical opinions.
In contrast, it is widely believed that science and technology are the cornerstone, as the world is changing day by day, and there is a need for cutting-edge innovations to make people’s lives better, which is only possible through STEM. To illustrate, scientists are doing a lot of research on cancer and other fatal diseases, which is the basic need of humans as a large number of people are suffering from various deadly ailments.
From my perspective, both disciplines are equally important, and schools should focus on both subjects. The world cannot rely on one topic to make progress; instead, a mixed pattern is needed, which is a pragmatic approach.
To put it in a nutshell, though STEM is the need of the hour, one cannot deny the importance of history; to make a well-rounded society and individuals, a holistic approach is very important.

To my mind, as history brings critical thinking, broadening a person’s perspectives, technical directions can enhance abstract thinking and certain skills without which living in the contemporary world would be challenging. Nevertheless, I adhere to the notion that all subjects are equally important.
History, being the core of humanities, nurtures several essential qualities in the young generation. Firstly, it can be seen as a model of human behavior throughout the thousands of years, which allows young people to analyze mistakes and ways that led to the fall and rise of civilizations. What is more, such a seemingly detached third-party perspective allows students to think rationally, without having a biased attitude. Secondly, knowing history promotes critical thinking that can be applied in daily life. For example, if citizens studied world history classes diligently, they would be less prone to being manipulated during elections, when politicians promise unfeasible changes, and they will consume media news more critically, not letting radical opinions have an influence over them.
On the other hand, while science classes allow pupils to think abstractly, computer science, for example, elevates technical literacy that is an essential part of a modern person’s life. It is generally acknowledged that mathematics benefits children’s ability of abstract thinking, allowing them to approach difficult problems with creativity. Physics, biology, and chemistry, in turn, provide minors with a basic understanding of how our world is settled, prompting their curiosity by encouraging them to comprehend the causes and effects of seemingly insignificant events. This urge to acquire knowledge raises members of society who are always keen to learn.
To sum up, as history incentivises individuals to have a critical perspective, science and technology help children to think abstractly and creatively. Thus, I believe that both fields are vitally important in raising a modern human.
