Overall, openings were the highest at roughly 8,500 shops at the start of the period, while closures were just under 6,500. However, closures surpassed openings between 2015 and 2016.
In addition, openings experienced a gradual fall from 2011 to 2012, reaching 4,000 shops. They then recovered, reaching just above 6,000 by 2014. Overall, although openings were initially higher than closures, the number of new shops generally declined over the period. In contrast, closures fluctuated considerably, experiencing a dramatic drop in 2015 before recovering in the following years.

From 2011 to 2014, openings initially stood at approximately 8,500, significantly higher than closures at around 6,500. However, the number of new shops dropped sharply to 4,000 in 2012, while closures declined slightly. Openings then recovered steadily, reaching about 6,000 in 2014, a figure similar to that of closures, which peaked at roughly 7,200 in 2013 before falling back.

In 2015, closures experienced a dramatic drop to below 1,000, marking the lowest point on the chart. They then recovered sharply to approximately 5,200 in 2016 and remained relatively stable until 2018. 5. ISHTIAQUE AHMED LEVIN says:

The line graph delineates the dynamics of shop closures versus new shop openings in a particular country from 2011 to 2018.

Overall, it is evident that shop closures consistently outnumbered openings throughout the observed period, with notable fluctuations in both categories. The years 2013 and 2014 were exceptional, wherein new shop openings briefly surpassed closures.

In 2011, the data reveals that approximately 5,400 shops were closed, while the count of new openings stood at around 5,900. The year 2012 recorded an alarming rise in closures to approximately 7,300, a divergence from new openings that experienced a slight decrease to approximately 5,600. Following this peak in closures, the numbers witnessed a decline, with closures decreasing to about 4,600 in 2016. By contrast, new shop openings exhibited a more erratic pattern, plummeting to around 3,200 in 2015 before recovering slightly to 5,500 in 2016 and further enhancing to 6,300 by 2018.

Examining the closures further, 2013 marked the zenith of shop closures, peaking at 7,300, yet this was coupled with a temporary increase in new openings, which surged to approximately 7,000. However, this resurgence was short-lived, as the subsequent year saw new openings revert, ultimately culminating in a drastic decline to 3,200 in 2015. Subsequently, closures exhibited a resurgence, escalating to 6,600 by 2018. Throughout the period, it is important to note that closures consistently exceeded openings, except for 2013 and 2014, demonstrating a challenging retail environment in which closures persistently overshadowed new business entries.

The line graph illustrates the number of stores that closed and those that opened in a particular country over a seven-year period, from 2011 to 2018.

At first glance, despite fluctuations, both the number of shop closures and openings experienced an overall downward trend throughout this period. Notably, the highest figures for store closures and openings were observed in 2013 and 2011, respectively, while the lowest figures were recorded in 2015 and 2018.

Upon closer examination, it is evident that although both the number of store closures and openings decreased significantly, the decline in closures was only 1,000, compared to a much larger decrease of approximately 5,500 openings by 2018. Additionally, the number of closures dipped below 1,000, with a sharp decline occurring between 2014 and 2015.

A specific analysis of store openings reveals that the number of openings entered a plateau, remaining at 4,000 between 2015 and 2016, while they showed negligible growth, increasing by about 100 by 2017. BAND 8.0

The line graph compares the number of shops that closed and those that opened in a particular country between 2011 and 2018.

Overall, both shop closures and openings followed a generally downward trend over the period, although closures experienced a dramatic drop in 2015, while openings fluctuated more steadily. It is also clear that in most years, more shops opened than closed, except during the middle part of the period.

In 2011, shop openings stood at around 8,500, significantly higher than closures, which were approximately 6,500. While closures increased slightly to around 7,000 in 2012, openings fell sharply to just above 4,000. By 2013, however, openings recovered to around 6,000, whereas closures peaked at roughly 7,600, the highest figure recorded for closures across the entire period.

From 2014 onward, both categories declined. Closures fell moderately to 6,000 in 2014 before plunging dramatically to only about 500 in 2015, the lowest point on the graph. This figure then rebounded sharply to around 5,000 in 2016 and remained relatively stable through 2017 and 2018. Meanwhile, openings dropped to around 4,000 in 2014 and then fluctuated between 4,000 and 6,000 in the final four years, ending at roughly 3,000 in 2018.

In summary, although both shop openings and closures decreased overall, closures showed far more volatility, particularly in 2015, while openings exhibited more moderate fluctuations.
