    BAND 7 :
The map illustrates comparisons of a harbor called Porth Harbour in 2000 and today. A closer look reveals numerous changes. Six changes have occurred, with details of site swaps and new additions.

The map also shows that the harbor area has been quite densely populated for a long time, with numerous public facilities such as a public beach, fishing boats, parking, and showers and toilets. Private facilities offered at Porth Harbour include a marina for private yachts and a castle, which was still under discussion until 2000.

Compared to this year, there have been changes in Porth Harbour’s layout, such as the marina being replaced with fishing boats. Furthermore, the area that was once a road to the south, to the right of the fishing boats, has now been developed with cafes and shops. Not far from there, the site where the castle was originally planned has been converted into a hotel. This has also impacted the beach to the south, to the left of the hotel. Previously, this area was still considered a public beach but has now been transformed into a private beach exclusively for the hotel and its guests.

The maps show how Porth Harbour looked in 2000 and how it has changed today.

Overall, the harbour has been significantly developed, with more facilities for tourists and improved infrastructure. While some original features remain, many areas have been modernised or replaced.

In 2000, the harbour mainly served fishing and transport purposes. There was a marina for private yachts on the west side, as well as an area for fishing boats. A dock for passengers was located in the centre. There were also basic facilities such as car parks and showers near the main road. In the east, there was a public beach and a castle.

Today, several changes can be seen. The fishing boats area has been moved to the northwest, while the marina has been relocated to the southwest. More showers and toilets have been added near both areas. In addition, new cafes and shops have been built along the road.

The eastern side has also changed significantly. The castle has been replaced by a hotel, and the public beach has become a private beach for hotel guests.

In conclusion, Porth Harbour has transformed from a working harbour into a more tourist-oriented area.

The diagram illustrates how a given harbour in 2000 looked and how it looks today. Overall, it is immediately apparent that the area underwent many structural changes and layout modifications.

The northern section of the site has seen a proliferation of docks, resulting in the creation of more space for boats of today’s potential tourists. The area for passenger ferries and the public beach stayed the same. Turning to the west, underutilized space for fishing boats and a prospective marina for private yachts switched places. Furthermore, a new section of showers and toilets was established right next to a car park, providing a more visitor-friendly experience. Regarding the southern site, new cafes and shops were established; what is more, a castle shifted into a brand new hotel, with a public beach converting into a private one, available only for hotel guests.

To sum up, the whole area witnessed a proliferation of amenities and new facilities, clearly shifting to a commercial zone by providing a more visitor-friendly environment.

The two maps provide information about the alterations that occurred in Port Harbour from 2000 to the present. With labels and pictures, both maps include several man-made features located on the land and in the water.

Looking from an overall perspective, it can be observed that the area became much more urbanized with the addition of commercial facilities and the road network was also constructed to improve access.

Looking at the details, looking at the northern part of the harbour public beach, remained unchanged throughout the period, while new dock was established to cater to more passengers. Regarding the north-west corner, showers& toilets and car park no changes were made to the original layout however fishing and marina areas replaced each other, moved to the lower section, and it expanded.

Furthermore, in the southern area of the map, a car park was built, and showers and toilets were built on top of it. Moreover, access to the area was improved; in addition, the castle, which was an uninvited guest, turned into a hotel. Although cafes and shops were installed extending from the shoreline, the lifeboats remained unchanged, and the public beach alternated with a private beach.

The plans below illustrate changes in Porth harbour between 2000 and the present day.

Overall, the harbour has become more developed. Some facilities have been added, whereas others have been removed or replaced by other facilities.

In 2000, the area mainly consisted of a showers and toilets area, marinas specializing in private yachts and fishing boats, a dock, a lifeboat, two public beaches on each side of the plan (North, South), a disused castle, and a main road which connected with the southern road, providing access to the lifeboat.

Today, some facilities have been added, such as showers and toilets, which are located upstairs from the second car park. The road for the second car park has been removed, and the current road connects with the main road. Furthermore, the marinas have changed locations with each other, and one more dock has been built near the current one. One public beach has remained stable; however, the second belongs to the reconstructed castle, now a hotel. Moreover, cafes and shops have been built near the lifeboat.

  8. Mutia says:

The plans illustrate the changes in the port harbor from 2000 to the present day. Overall, several venues have been reconstructed, including cafes and shops, the dock, as well as showers and toilets. The castle has been converted into a hotel, and the public beach area has been transformed into a private beach, while the marina and fishing boats remain in the same location.

The most noticeable feature is that the dock now has additional armadas and a passenger ferry located near private yachts. In 2000, across the road, there was an open space that has been developed into cafes and shops. Additionally, showers and toilets have been added to the north, providing two facilities for restroom use.

Furthermore, the castle has been repurposed as a hotel, which has led to the public beach on the west side being claimed as part of the hotel and modified into a private beach.

    Band 8.0

  9. Şevval Güner says:

The map above illustrates the layout of Port Harbour in 2000, whereas the map below presents the current view of the harbour, highlighting the similarities and differences.

Overall, Port Harbour has undergone a significant transformation over a period of more than two decades, becoming a tourism-related place compared to the past. Notably, there are substantial developments with the exception of the location of the dock and the lifeboat.

Upon closer examination, notwithstanding the fact that one of the showers & toilets remained at the same place, additional showers and toilets were built to the north of the car park, in the southwestern part of the map; hence, the number of restrooms has increased. Furthermore, the locations of the fishing boats and marina for private yachts were swapped.

In addition to the aforementioned points, cafes and shops were erected in the vicinity of the lifeboat, whereas the disused castle was demolished. What stands out is that a hotel was constructed in the previous location of the castle, leading to the transformation of the public beach into a private beach.

  10. Mahmudul Hasan says:

The two maps illustrate the transformation in Porth Harbour and how it looks between 2000 and today.
Overall, the most striking feature shown in the maps is that Porth Harbour underwent significant changes. The changes were replacement of the castle with a hotel. New street have been added around Porth Harbor. In addition, new facilities are being added to the beach.
To begin with, in 2000, the castle was located on the southern side of the beach; however, nobody used it. Furthermore, the public beach was situated near the castle, and a lifeboat was located at the top of the public beach. On the western side of the beach, there were various facilities; for example, at the top were showers and car park, and opposite them were the Marina (private yachts), and at the bottom were another car park and fishing boats. The main road connected the west and southern part, and road separated several roads. In the north part, there was a dock for passengers, and a public beach was nearby.
On other hand, at presents, the castle was removed, and a new hotel was build. The hotel owner purchased the beach and only allows visitors to enter. On the north side, a new dock was added. On the west part of the cost, new shower facilities were added near the car parking, and the fishing boats and Marine (private yachts) change location with one another. Moreover, the main road has not changed, but new roads have been added in the southern part. A cafe and shops area was built near the lifeboat.
