I'd like to talk about a place where I found most items to be overpriced. It happened in 2021 when I was on a business trip to Chengdu. On my way back home, I had some time to spare at the Chengdu International Airport. I decided to browse the gift shop, thinking it would be a good opportunity to pick up something special for my nephew. I went into one of the shops, which was very fancy with elaborate decorations. However, once inside, I realized everything was incredibly expensive. For example, a panda doll cost around 140 yuan, while the same item on the online platform Taobao only cost 30 yuan. Despite the price difference, I didn't think too much about it because I wanted something special for my family. So, I bought the panda doll and gave it to my nephew. He was very happy with it, as it was very cute. I believe he still has the panda doll to this day. I think the reason things are so expensive at the airport is because they cater to travelers who are often in a hurry and may not have the time or inclination to shop around for better prices. Additionally, the airport has a captive audience, meaning that travelers have limited options for purchasing goods. This allows the shops to charge premium prices for their products.
