One of the environmental problems in the area where I live is the SeaVar traffic jam. It’s just not affecting other people’s daily routine but also making the air polluted. There are several reasons for this problem, like too many vehicles on the road. People prefer using private cars and motorbikes instead of public transportation. And sometimes I saw construction projects that is like already abandoned halfway and left in the middle of the road making the traffic flow worse. And because of this many people feel exhausted. They spend hours stuck in traffic every day and their productivity will decrease and their stress will increase. Some people try to use public transport like the MRT or Trans-Jocarta, but I think the system still needs to improve because even though we can use the public transport to avoid the traffic sometimes it’s making it worse instead because the system is not fully efficient yet and we need to stay in the long lines because of the overcrowded buses and trains. So sometimes we cannot even get a seat. And we need to wait for hours to get home by using the public transportation. So overall traffic jams in Jakarta are quite serious environmental issues because it can affect people’s health, time and also overall quality of life I think.
