For example, girls under 15 had to keep their hair short around ear and we weren’t allowed to dry, curl, or style it in any way. Even trying a ponytail to a hind was considered breaking the rule. I had to follow this rule throughout my school years. I personally thought it limited our freedom to express ourselves, especially at an age when many students are figuring out their identity. I understand that the rule was meant to promote this complaint and create a sense of equality so that students would focus more on studying rather than appearance. But from a student’s point of view, it failed to control and honestly a bit outdated. I also believe the rule didn’t really affect students’ academic performance. Now is the day I have noticed that some schools in Thailand are becoming more flexible, allowing students to wear their hair more freely as long as it’s neat. I think that’s a very positive development because rules should evolve with society. Students today are more creative, more expressive, and I think the school system should support that in a healthy and respectful way.
