As a kid, during my childhood, my parents used to cook a lot of meals for me, and I used to, without a thought or any rebellion, eat the meals that they prepared. They were quite good, but they may not have been suited to my taste. For example, I really liked meals that were very soft and mushy to chew, like mashed potatoes or porridge. However, my parents were very keen on cooking more flavorful or spicy meals for us, which may not have been something I enjoyed. Gradually, when I developed an interest as a kid to maybe add an ingredient or try something new, I wasn't really allowed to do so because my parents obviously had that fear that any parent has. They wanted to keep their child safe from the kitchen because of the utensils and the fire present. So naturally, my parents didn't allow me, but I did get to gradually learn how to cook during my time as a graduate student because it was the first time I was living alone. When I lived alone, I had the chance to gather my own ingredients and create a list of meals I wanted to try. I was able to learn it in about 6 to 12 months to really perfect it with the meals that I wanted to try and enjoy eating. For example, I never really made butter chicken by myself, so learning that took me a good 3 to 4 weeks to perfect. I mostly learned from YouTube videos of other people or professional chefs cooking it, and from those recipes, I was able to improve my cooking skills significantly. I think the benefit is that you have more options.

And I was able to learn it maybe in 6 to 12 months to really perfect it to a tea with the meals that I really wanted to try and enjoy eating. So for example, I never really made butter chicken by myself. So learning that took me a good pile of maybe 3 to 4 weeks to really perfect it. I would mostly learn it from YouTube videos of other people or professional chefs cooking it and from those recipes I was able to improve the way I cook a lot more and I think the benefit is you have more options.
