Why the level of my students, especially those young students of a grade 5 and 4, I found it difficult to understand my English language while I used to speak only in English during classes. So the situation involved me as an English teacher and my students as locals and they were used to use their own accent and their own dialect. So to overcome this challenge, I used several strategies. First, I simplified my language and avoided using educational jargon. Secondly, I relied on video aids such as charts and pictures to facilitate the meaning of words. I checked their understanding regularly by asking open-ended questions and giving examples of particular situations and I encourage them to participate more effectively. Most importantly, I stay patient and maintain positive attitude to this challenge. As a result, the gap between us disappeared and I became their favorite teacher. What I learned from this first and foremost that effective communication is not about using complex language, it’s about adapting, you’ll message to your audience and as it said you are as good as your communication is.
