I am pretty sure that the statement is true because in our current generation, people may celebrate online through video conferencing. In the past, people used to come together from different places and celebrate in a common location, whereas people now do the completely opposite. Also, in the past, people celebrated even minor things, like a good yield of crops, whereas people have become more selective and now want something bigger to celebrate.
