It’s true that teachers in Bangladesh supplement their income through private tutoring and in some cases this can be quite profitable. However, I don’t think that justifies the low salaries they receive from their official teaching positions. Private tutoring often takes place outside of regular school hours which means teachers have to work long days, sometimes late into the evening. This extra workload can be physically and mentally exhausting. Also not all teachers have equal access to tutoring. Opportunities those in rural areas or government schools may not have the same demand as their counterparts in cities. In my opinion, relying on tutoring to make decent living highlights a deeper problem in the education system, teachers should be fairly compensated for their core responsibilities so they don’t feel pressured to take on extra work just to survive. Ideally tutoring should be a choice not necessary.
