I believe there are a few ways for students to be motivated to learn new things. First of all, people always say interest is the best teacher. I think if the students are interested in something, then they will be naturally motivated to learn it. Second, if they have a good teacher who has efficient ways to teach the children these skills, then they will be more than happy to learn from the teacher. For example, a lot of people like to learn about animation production using computers, and most of the people are very good at this because they are interested in this field.
