Social pressure also contributes, as people may feel inadequate if they don't have the same possessions as their peers. This can lead to a desire to keep up with the Joneses and buy things to feel successful or accepted.

Ah, there are many reasons why people tend to, um, spend their money on things, uh, they don’t necessarily need. I believe advertising affects people’s purchasing habits and they buy, uh, things for feel more happy or more satisfied. Another thing is, uh, social compromised.
