I think it depends on the character of those people. Longstanding friendships require high patience and understanding because if two people have a relationship for a long time, there can always be some discord and struggles. During those times, people have to be patient and try to understand each other because everyone has strong reasons for supporting their ideas. However, in those moments, it's more important to maintain the connection.
