The table gives information about the number of people who are qualifying teachers training in the UK in the years 2005/6 and 2006/7. The table gives data on the total teaching qualifications obtained, Postgraduate Certificate in Education, BEd and other degrees.
In 2005/6, the total number of qualifiers was 31,930 with the number of female teachers dominating the number of male teachers. 23,865 females and only 8,065 males with the percentage of male qualifiers of 25.3. The total number of PGCE qualifications was 24,405 with 17,420 female and 6,880 male qualifiers (28.6%). The population for BEd&other degrees was minimal with the total of only 7,525 from with majority were women (6,440) and the remaining 1,085 were men (14.4%)
In the years 2006/7, the trends were similar. The majority of the teacher training qualifications were obtained by female participants. Total number of qualifications was 31,945 which was only slightly higher than the previous year. With 24,335 females and 7,610 males (23.8%). Postgraduate certificates were again, mainly obtained by women with 17,415 qualifiers. Only 6,485 that is 27.1% were men which added up to 23,900 total qualifications. Finally, the BEd&other degrees notice a slight increase in numbers with 8,045 total qualifiers, with 6,920 female and 1,125 (14.5%) male qualifiers.
