The table illustrates the quantity of UK based individuals in years 2005/6 and 2006/7. It also highlights the percentage of male students during each year. In both the years specific qualification categories such as the Postgraduate Certificate in Education and the BEd and other qualifications awarded are included.
Overall, in 2005/6 females were the majority of qualifiers in all the three categories.The trend was stable even in the year 2006/7 with minor growth in all sectors. The male figures were significant in both the years and minor variations occurred.
In 2005/6 total number of qualifiers who obtained the initial training qualification were 31,930 with marginal rise in 2006 amounting to 31,945. This included a higher proportion of females that is 23,865 compared to males that is 8,065. A similar pattern occured in 2006 with the females constituting the majority.
The PGCE was also dominated by the females in both the years with a constant proportion. The males also had a consistent number of male qualifiers in both the years. The qualification of BEd and others was dominated by the females in the years sucessively with the figures 7,525 and 8,045. On the other hand, the males had a lower number in this category.
To conclude, females had significantly outnumbered the males in all categories in both the years whereas the males maintained consistent figures in all the categories. The total remained largely stable overall.
