The two illustrations depict the transformation of Central Library’s layout 20 years ago and the present.
Overall, the place has undergone substantial modernizations, evident in the integration of new facilities (a cafe and sofa) and technological advancements (vending machines and computers). Additionally, the volume of paper books has halved, whereas more services have been introduced, which offer customers a wider range of leisure options.
Two decades ago, there were several tables and chairs located in the center of the building, along with a section for adult fiction books to the left and a storage for adult non-fiction books to the right. In the top right corner, videos and computer games were housed there, while a reading room was positioned in the lower corner. The two right corners involve a room for children’s books and an inquiry desk below.
Its current design includes the reconfiguration of all segments; with the elimination of tables and chairs, facilitating a spacious central area. Furthermore, the entire right-side section has been replaced with a computer room, reference books, fiction books, storytelling events, and several sofas. Lastly, a cafe, the information desk, self-service machines, and a lecture room have been added on the right-hand side
