The pie chart illustrates the average consumption of sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar by meal in USA. All three types of nutrients may be harmful if over-consumed.
Overall, while the intake of sodium and saturated fat is higher at dinner than all of the other meal, whereas added sugar is eaten most in snacks.
Sodium consumption is highest at dinner and second highest at lunch, accounting for 43% and 29% of total consuming respectively, while the proportions of intake at breakfast time and lunch are the same, both at 14%.
Moreover, dinner and lunch also accounted the largest proportion in saturated fat consumption respectively, at 37% and 26%. However, a greater proportion of saturated fat is eaten at snack time compared to breakfast, made up 21% and 16% respectively.
Compared with the other two nutrients, added sugar has a relatively low consumption level at dinner, accounting for 23%. The added sugar is most consumed at snacks time, made up 42%. However, like other nutrients, added sugar also consumed least at breakfast time and lunch, accounting for only 16% and 19%.
