The line graph shows the percentage of people living in urban or rural areas and 3 different age groups all around the world between 1950 and 2040.
Overall, all population trends increased significantly and are predicted to increase by the end of the period, with exception of the rural population trend which remained stable and is projected to continue. The 15-56 age group dominated all the time, while 2 other groups are set to have not much changes.
Regarding the first line graph, the number of urban residents went up from around 8 per cent in 1950 to 20 per cent in 2000, before rising significantly to nearly 37 per cent in 2040. However, rural residents started with about 4 percent, then fluctuated a bit in the beginning of the 90-year period and is set to grow by about 2 percent by 2040. In total the population grew dramatically from almost 10 per cent in 1950 to nearly 45 per cent in 2040.
As for the second line graph, the percentage of people in the 15-65 age group had an upward trend starting with around 5 per cent in 1950 and is expected to hit a peak at 35 per cent in 2024. Nevertheless, both the 0-15 and 65+ groups began with nearly 3 per cent, then fluctuated over the whole period while having first overtake in 1965 by 65+ categories and second overtake in 2025 by minors. They are expected to end up almost at the same point in 2040 reaching about 6 per cent.
