Band 7+: Chorleywood is a village near London whose population has increased steadily since the middle of the nineteenth century. The map below shows the development of the village.

The Chorleywood village’s map provides information about how it developed dramatically since the 19th mid-century.

As can be observed, more specified roads were constructed besides the main road that existed previously. In addition, the village’s square was enlarged moderately through 4 periods, beginning in 1868 and finishing in 1994.

Initially, the first people resided here from 1868 to 1883. After that, two more areas appeared along the main road to the south, where a railway was built in 1909 and horizontally crossed this new town with the railway station inside. Nowadays, Chorleywood Park and Golf Course are located in the center of the map, to the right of the original region.

From 1922 to 1970, the hamlet’s space expansion covered both the east and west sides of the former area, adjacent to the railway. At the end of this stage, a motorway was opened and launched flanking the east side, creating intersections with the main road and railway. From that to 1994, densely populated zones continually developed, spreading to spots close to the motorway. In particular, there were two parts to the northern west, which was separated by the motorway. Furthermore, the southwest encountered three new areas around in which the rail track intersects the motorway.
