The bar graphs represent data comparing the generation of electricity through the use of renewable and non renewable energy sources in America in the year 2009 and 2019.
Overall, the most energy was produced through coal and natural gases in the year 2009 and 2019 respectively. Though renewable sources were not used as much as the non renewables, the highest amount of energy was produced by wind among them in 2019.
In 2009, electricity was mainly produced by coal followed by natural gases, nuclear sources, renewable sources and petroleum. Coal’s usage dropped from being at the highest level while producing 1756 billion kilowatt- hours to being the second highest one with 966 billion kilowatt hours in 2019. Despite being used less than coal in 2009, natural gases were mostly preferred in 2019 with a total generation of 1582 billion kilowatt-hours.
The use of renewable sources of energy almost doubled from the year 2009 to 2019. Among these sources, hydroelectric power was chosen by Americans in 2009, however, they preferred to use wind sources more in the year 2018 which created a total of 300 billion kilowatt- hours. No significant changes were seen on the usage of hydroelectric source in both years. In addition to that, only a slight number of changes were reported on the usage of geothermal and biodegradable sources.
