Influenza (flu) is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract that can cause severe illness and life-threatening complications. It affects people of all ages. The flu is usually spread by breathing in droplets from coughs and sneezes that contain the virus. In June 1996, an experimental flu vaccine was trialled in a large country towns for females only.

On the first graph, it is shown a number of deaths by flu from March to August. From March to May 1% of females deceased from this sickness, while males haven’t yet died by it. From June to August 4% deceased from the flu, while only 2% of males become a victim to this sickness.

On the second graph, it is shown the female recipients of new vaccine groups that are most at risk.
