The bar charts illustrate marriage and divorce rates from 1970 to 2000 in the USA and the maritals status of Americans over 18 years old.
From a board prespective, it is clear that the total number of marriages were significantly higher than divorces at all times. There was also a decline in the number of marriages while the amount of divorces had a slight fluctuation through the period of time given. The number of the married adults in both 1970 and 2000 were considerably higher than never married, widowed and divorced people.
In 1970 and 1980, marriage stood unchanged at 2.5 millions whilst divorces had a noticable increase from 1 million to just under 1.5 millions. In the year 1990 the marriages experienced a dip to just below 2.5 millions, the same process happend to divorces as well ; In 2000, this reduction continued for both groups.
In both never married and devorced catogaries, the year 2000 had accounted more than the year 1970 with 20% and under 10%, respectively. In contrast, 1970 outnumbered the year 2000 in married with 70% when 2000 were just at 60%. Also about widowed individuals, 1970 was slightly higher than 2000.
