The pie chats compare the percentage of average spending of students at one university, in 2000 and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that the figures for eating out, utilities and transport experienced an upward trend, while the reverse was true for clothing. It is also worth mentioning that student’s expenses on food and drink remained unchanged.
In 2000, food and drink(home) made up the largest amount of expenditure at 29%, followed by utilities (electricity and water) which was 21%. Sport&cultural activities and clothing accounted for almost the same amount of total spending at 17% and 16%, respectively. Students spent smaller proportions on transport, holidays, and eating out, at 8%, 5%, and 4%, respectively.
Regarding 2010, spending on refreshments remained unchanged at 29% and this trend can be seen in the proportion of sports and cultural activities which remained at 17%. The expenditure on utilities increased significantly from 21% to 27%. Similarly, figures for eating showed a twofold increase. Transport rose slightly from 8% to 9%. In contrast, clothing expenditure fell sharply from 16% to 5%.
