The two diagrams illustrate the current layout of Southwest Airport and the planned changes set to take place following redevelopment next year.
Overall, the airport is set to undergo significant expansion and modernisation. Notably, the number of gates will more than double, and several new facilities such as a bag drop, ATM, shops, and car hire services will be introduced. The existing layout, which is relatively simple, will be replaced with a more complex and efficient Y-shaped design incorporating a sky train.
At present, the airport has a basic rectangular structure with a single walkway leading to eight gates. Upon arrival, passengers proceed through passport control and customs, while departing travellers check in, pass through security, and access the gates via the walkway. A single café is available in the departures hall.
Following redevelopment, the layout will be enhanced considerably. The number of gates will increase from eight to eighteen, connected by a central sky train. Shops will be added after the security checkpoint, offering greater convenience to passengers. In the departures area, the check-in and café will switch positions, and a new bag drop facility will be introduced. On the arrivals side, additional amenities such as an ATM, a second café, and car hire services will be available, improving the overall passenger experience.
