Overall, the sales of children’s books showed a steady increase and became the highest among the three categories by 2006. In contrast, the sales of adult fiction decreased over time, while educational books experienced some fluctuations but ended with a slight increase.
In 2002, adult fiction had the highest sales at around 45 million dollars, followed by children’s books at 33 million, and educational books at about 25 million. In the following year, sales of children’s books rose sharply to 42 million dollars, overtaking adult fiction, which dropped to 38 million.
Between 2003 and 2005, children’s books continued to rise gradually, reaching about 46 million dollars. Meanwhile, adult fiction sales remained fairly stable in 2004 but then declined significantly to around 32 million by 2005. Educational books showed a small rise in 2003, dropped slightly in the next two years, and then recovered in 2006.
By 2006, children’s books reached the highest point at approximately 56 million dollars. Educational books rose to just over 30 million, while adult fiction fell to the lowest level among the three, at 30 million dollars.
