The given bar diagram illustrates the proportions of individual’s drinking behaviour by age, from 16 to 74 years, in the United States. Which consists of various categories, such as heavy drinker, light drinker, ex-drinker, and the people who never drink.
At a first glance, it is clear that, the number of people who never drink alcohol, and those who easily get drunk has gradually declined as the people age. In contrast, as the age increases, more number of individuals stop drinking alcohol, while ex-drinkers is highest among middle aged groups.
Firstly, the percentage of individuals who never drink alcohol between ages 16 and 24 is exactly at 60 percent, which is same as age between 35 to 44. In the case of ex-drinkers it comprises 10 percent in younger adults, while it gradually decreases (5%) as people gather older. As for the tolerance rate for alcohol slightly higher among middle age adults with proportion around the 13 percent, on the contrary, it is around 5 percent in younger age.
Secondly, among older age, the percentage of the people who never had drinks gradually declined from 55% to 44%, meanwhile, the number of the people who cease drinking moderately rose from 10% to 40%. Regarding the light drinkers and heavy drinkers both decrease from 35 percent to 15 percent.
