Turning to the details, in 1988, the unemployment rate about 17% and the number of people leaving Ireland was approximately 60 000. Over the next decade, both figures saw a gradual decrease. By 2000, unemployment had dropped to under 5% and emigration had fallen to around 25 000.
From 2000 to 2008, there was a stay constant in unemployment rate which was accounted for 6% and the emigration had sharply rise which was started in 2004. By the end of the period shown, in 2008, the unemployment rate was 6% and the emigration was almost 50 000.
