Looking at the bar chart first, in 1995, the number of people who traveled from the UK and the USA was 800,000 and just over 400,000, the lowest on the chart. In the meantime, people from Japan who visited Austria were 1,400,000, the highest figure on the chart. By 2005, the figure for the residents of the UK and the USA rose sharply, compiling 1,400,000 each, overtaking Japanese tourists. Regarding the proportion of Japanese visitors, the figure for it witnessed a marked decline from 1,400,000 to 1,000,000.
Regarding types of holiday, namely staying at resorts and backpacking, the former began at just above 1.5 million in 1995, being the highest on the graph. After increasing steeply from 1.5 million to 2.5 million people between 1995 and 2000, the figure then went down steadily to around 1.3 million by 2005, but it remained the highest on the graph. With respect to backpacking, the number of people choosing it constituted just under 500,000 in 1995. Since then, it experienced a modest growth between 1995 and 2005, reaching 1.2 million.
