Overall, the quantity of overseas students from Japan, Russia and the USA both witnessed an increasing trend, meanwhile the figure of students studying abroad in China had a decreasing trend. In addition, the entire number of students from Russia was always at least.

Regarding the number of international students from China and USA at European universities. China reached the highest number with around 28,000 students and this figure declined significantly but continuously ranked first about 22,000 students in the next years. However, China saw a downward trend in three years later, recording only around 18,000; 18,000 and 16,000 students in 2006, 2007 and 2008, respectively. Reference to students from the United States, showed an impressive growth. More specificaly, in 2004 students from the USA accounted for around 13,000 and grew remarkably in 2005.
