The line graph given compares the proportions of exports in four different countries: Japan, the US, China, India between 1990 and 2012, at 5-year intervals
Looking at the illustration, it is immediately evident that Japan recorded the highest figure in most years, whereas the opposite was true for India. Additionally, Japan and the US. showed an overall downward trend, except for China and India.
In 1990, Japan dominated the chart at approximately 26% of Australian exports, which was roughly 14% higher than that of the US. China’s figure ranked third at just 3%, while the exports to India came in last at about 2%. By around 2009, China had overtaken Japan to be Australia’s largest goods export market.
In 2012, with the dramatic rise in the exports of China, this country experienced exponential growth and reached a peak of around 28%. The figures for Japan and the US. declined substantially to stand at just 18% and nearly 5% respectively; meanwhile, India was in the lowest position in 1990, had climbed steadily to reach a peak of close to 10% in 2009 , followed by a slight drop to about 5% at the end of the period.
