The given line graph illustrates the amount of occupants in European prisons from the year 1911 to 2001.
In general, over the years, there has been a noticeable gradual climb for the numbers of male prisoners in Europe. In contrast, the total amount of female prisoners fluctuated as time went by, resulting in a huge drop by the year 2001.
In the year 1921, both genders experienced a slight decline. Though, over the next 50 years, there has been a major difference for the two sides. Male prisoners showed a slow but constant rise, whereas female prisoners experienced an unstable growth with various amount of ups and downs. By the end of the period, the majority of European prisons are filled with male prisoners as the positive trend continued reaching it’s highest peak. Meanwhile, female occupants went through a sharp fall, ending up in it’s lowest point over the past decades.
