The chart shows an estimated world illiteracy rates divided by regions on a span of one year. The results are showed on percentages of male and female illiteracy rate each region.
South Asia is on top of the illiteracy rate according to the chart, where more than half of the female population is illiterate, while the male population is around 30% in comparison. Arab states and Sub-Saharan have similar rates than South Asia, just slightly lower. Its important to note that the percentage of illiteracy rate on females is substantially higher than from males. East Asia and Latin America have considerably lower rates than the previous regions. East Asia has the higher illiteracy rate among both having around 20% of the population being illiterate and less than 10% for males. In the case of Latin America, the rates for males an females is very similar both around 10%. Female illiteracy rate is also a little higher than males. Finally developed countries have the lowest illiteracy rate with less than 5%, also presenting the same behavior as the other regions there females have a higher illiteracy rate just in less measure.
In conclusion, illiteracy rate is more prominent on women among all regions and is generally more notorious on regions with high illiteracy rates, as shown on the charts.
